The West View Police Department is a full time, full service 24 hour police department, employing nine full time and two part time police officers.

The Department consists of the Police Chief
, a Lieutenant, a Sergeant and eight patrol officers.

Additionally, the Police Department employees eight Special Police Officers whose main function is to assist the regular officers at times of emergencies. The Special Police also function as Parking Enforcement officers in the business district and assist in crossing residents on Sunday’s at several church locations.

Seven School Crossing Guards employed by the Police Department see that your children safely cross the streets in the mornings and afternoons while on their way to and from school. Several school guards volunteer their time at the annual Halloween parade to pass out candy bags to the children attending this event.

Two Police offices are on duty at all times with their primary duties being to patrol the streets of the borough, enforcing laws and ordinances and assisting residents as needed.
The police department serves as a liaison between the residents and Borough Council, sharing information and concerns brought to our attention.

All calls for assistance, emergency and non emergency are handled through Northwest Regional Communications Center, who has the responsibility of receiving calls and dispatching officers as needed. 

The police department maintains four police cars and one Harley Davidson Motorcycle. In addition to motorized vehicles, the department has two bicycles that are used for various functions. The bicycle’s primary function is to patrol in West View Plaza area. On occasion an officer will be assigned to a neighborhood bicycle patrol to help identify and eliminate persistent problems.

Several officers are trained in special duties such as Crime Watch, DARE, crime scene investigator, fingerprinting, Accident Reconstruction and Drug Investigators.

Our officers investigate all crimes that occur in West View, only those requiring extensive investigations or resources beyond our means are referred to outside agencies such as the Allegheny County Police.
